Best Sleep Tracker for 2018

Best Sleep Tracker 2018

Best Wearable Sleep Trackers

If you’ve seen some of my other articles, like the best sleep headphones, you’ll know that there’s not much I like better than getting a decent night of sleep. In fact, my elusive quest has led me on a search for the best sleep tracker for 2018, and I uncovered some surprising information and interesting pieces of technology.

I’m a big fan of technology as well, especially if I think it can enhance my life or make things easier for my family.

And me getting a good night of sleep sure does make things easier for them!

As you can imagine, there’s a wide variety of sleep monitoring devices to choose from. I always try to review the best quality products while keeping an eye on affordability.

Below are the best sleep trackers I could find. They basically fall into two categories, wearables and non-wearables.

Let’s take a look.

Jawbone UP3 Activity Tracker

Jawbone is well-known for all types of wearable electronics, and they make high quality pieces of technology.

Take a look below at some of the features of this attractive wristband.

  • Constant heart health monitoring
  • Compatible with newer Android and IOS devices
  • Wireless sync
  • Smart sleep tracking automatically tracks REM, light, and deep sleep cycles
  • Smart Alarm automatically wakes you up at the best time
  • Idle alert reminds you to keep moving
  • Smart Coach guide delivers motivation and guides you toward healthy choices
  • Stylish bracelet comes in multiple colors and weighs just 5.5 ounces

This is a power packed unit that has many desirable features. There are, however, some points to consider when thinking about this activity and sleep tracker.

First of all, it seems that the quality of this unit might have downhill recently. There are numerous complaints of the bracelet not working right out of the box. So many that I am uncomfortable recommending it to you, even though it seems to be pretty popular with some folks.

Some users are also complaining that the device doesn’t hold a charge very well.

Be aware also that if you do order it that it may be difficult to send back because it has a Lithium-Ion battery that not every carrier will ship.

All in all, even though Jawbone makes some great products, but this one doesn’t seem to be in that category.

I usually only review products I can recommend wholeheartedly, but in this case I cannot.

Fitbit Ionic Smartwatch

Here is a multifunction Fitbit Ionic activity tracker that also offers sleep tracker and monitoring functions. This unit has a sleek, almost elegant design that’s very attractive. It’s on the larger side for these types of devices, but the list of features and benefits is long and impressive.

Check out the highlights below.

  • Responsive, colorful screen
  • Built in GPS
  • Stores up to 300 songs, download playlist from Pandora
  • Get personalized workouts right on your wrist
  • Includes small and large sized bands to get the perfect fit
  • Access to your favorite apps for weather, sports, etc
  • Smartwatch features like text, calls, and calendar events
  • Integrated Bluetooth and Wifi
  • Continuous heartrate monitor
  • Functions very well as a sleep tracker
  • Waterproof

Well we’re really just scratching the surface here, and you have to see the Fitbit Ionic to believe it. It has a brighter, more responsive screen than any other Fitbit, and is the premiere product of their line.

Of course, it syncs with your computer and phone, and from 30 feet away!

There are some accessories that come with it, and I do recommend getting them. The charger is handy and the screen protectors provide a measure of insurance for a very small price.

Some folks have complained that the battery life doesn’t last as long as advertised, but others say battery life has never been an issue under normal use conditions.

I love the fact that it’s extremely waterproof!

This Fitbit Ionic is the real deal and even though it’s a significant investment, if you’re serious about tracking your fitness, this one is among the best out there.

Nokia Sleep Under-Mattress Sleep Tracking Pads

This Nokia sleep pad device is a true sleep tracker, and unlike some of the others we talked about, monitoring and tracking your sleep is all it does, and it does it well.

I can see why people are attracted to units such as these, because there’s nothing to wear while you’re sleeping. This is attractive to people who are bothered by wearing jewelry to bed at night.

Look at this list of impressive features.

  • Monitors sleep cycles, detects snoring, monitors heart rate
  • Pairs up with Nokia Health Mate app to give a daily sleep score, shows how to improve sleep
  • Nothing to wear – easy, one time setup
  • Advanced sleep cycle tracking – light deep and REM
  • In-app sleep coaching program
  • Automatic sync via Wifi
  • IFTTT Integration to simplify your life – Example: turn on the heat when you awaken

Nokia makes all kinds of great electronic devices. Their name is well known and trusted. This is a solid performer that could help you understand your sleep patterns and ultimately get more quality sleep at night.

Some people have complained that no matter what they do, they can’t get it to integrate with IFTTT. Because this isn’t a part of the Nokia Sleep Pad, I don’t consider it a deal-breaker, but it does annoy me when they advertise a feature and it doesn’t work correctly.

Emfit QS

Here’s another non-wearable sleep tracker from Emfit QS that performs quite well. Emfit is a company in Finland that has been making bio-sensors for a long time. QS stands for Quantified Sleep, in case you were wondering.

Emfit QS claims to be the only sleep monitor that measure HRV, or Heart Rate Variability. This is a metric that athletes use to track their performance and recovery rates, but it’s also an indicator of heart health.

Below are some of the features.

  • Fits under mattress but not noticeable when laying on it
  • One of the most accurate sleep monitors on the market
  • Easily connects to your Wifi router and uploads data to website
  • Access data easily from web browser
  • Measures deep sleep, light sleep, and REM
  • Website gives a plethora of data relating to your sleep patterns

This is a serious piece of gear, and if you’re serious about your sleep monitoring you should really consider it. Yes, it is costly, but when you add up the health related problems that lack of sleep can produce, you’ll want to know all you can about your sleep patterns, and you want that data to be as accurate as possible.

This is where the Emfit QS shines. The accuracy is great and the amount of information on the website is very eye-opening.

Honorable Mention

Fitbit Alta HR

This wearable device does just about everything else the more fancy and expensive Fitbit does, but at a reduced price. It still has all the great features, but in a slimmer and less obtrusive package, which some people prefer.

It integrates with the Fitbit app to give you loads of data, and it syncs wirelessly and automatically to all types of IOS and Android devices.

The Fitbit Ulta is customizable to show only the metrics you want, and you can buy different bands for it. Make sure you pay attention when you’re ordering so you get the right one for your wrist circumference.

I just wanted to throw the Fitbit Alta HR in the mix because it’s a solid performer that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, or a night of sleep.

In Conclusion
